What is CBD?CBD is one of many natually occuring cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD interacts with the human and animal body via the endocannabinoid system; which is responsible for regulating a number of physiological functions. CBD is typically extracted from the stalks and seeds of the hemp plant. This cannabinoid has demostrated anti-inflammatory, pain relieving and anti-anxiety benefits.
-
What are cannabinoids?Cannabinoids are compounds that work naturally to regulate biological processes in the body such as inflammation, sleep, relaxation, appetite, and pain. Taken regularly, they can help maintain a healthy balance in the endocannabinoid system.
-
How does CBD work? All mammals have an endocannabinoid system that helps regulate physiological, neurological and immunological systems. If the system is lacking production, the receptors of the endocannabinoid system is utilize the additional cannabinoids to create balance and provide support for relaxing, repairing and restoring order. A daily supplement of CBD can help support this process.
-
What are the benefits of CBD?CBD can effectively bring balance to pets suffering from a variety of aliments. Benefits can include calming, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammation, joint support, arthritis relief, pain relief, overall health, and much more.
-
Is CBD safe for my dog?Yes! Dogs are especially responsive to CBD as they have the highest concentration of cannabinoid receptors by conparison to other mammals; even humans. Our CBD products have brought balance to dogs suffering from a variety of aliments; including anxiety, separation anxiety, arthritis, inflammation, pain, mobility issues, end of life discomfort, epilepsy, glaucoma, digestive issues and more. Consult your medical professional before starting new diets or routines with your pooch.
-
Is CBD safe for puppies?Yes! CBD is safe for dogs of all ages; however, we prefer to wait until the dog is at least one year old. If you do give CBD to a younger dog, start at the lower end of the recommended dose and observe closely. Monitor your dog and adjust as needed. Consult your medical professional before starting CBD with your pooch.
-
Is CBD legal in my state?CBD is legal under federal law, if it is derived from hemp, as passed in the 2018 Farm Bill. CBD is not specifically listed as a controlled substance under the US Controlled Substance Act; and no medical prescription is required. Individual state laws are more specific and some states may govern hemp derived CBD more strictly.
-
Can CBD get my dog high?Absolutely Not! CBD is non-psychoactive.
-
Can CBD be taken with other medication?Always consult with your veterinarian before starting a new diet or medical routine; especially if your dog is on taking a medical prescription besides a heartworm or flea preventative. Dogs taking liver medicine should NOT take CBD.
-
What's the difference between CBD and THC?CBD and THC (marijuana) are both cannabinoids derived from cannabis. They both interact with the cannabinoid receptors of the Endocannabinoid system. The main difference between these two popular cannabinoids is that one is psychoactive and the other is not! THC directly activates the CB1 receptor to create a euphoric side effect. CBD is an indirect antagonist of the CB1 receptor because it blocks it from linking with other compounds; making it non-psychoactive.
-
How much CBD should I give my dog?You know your dog best! Observe before and after adminstration to determine the optimal dose for your pooch. Begin at the lower end of the spectrum and scale up or down as needed. Repeat every 6-8 hours as necessary. Suggested Serving is 1-3mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight. Note: If your pup weighs less than 10 lbs, they can still enjoy our CBD treats. Simply break the treat in half as needed. The La Barkeria Pet Dropper is also a great option for small dogs. Please see the dosing guideline of the product page for more specific guides.
-
How long until you see the effects of CBD?Each dog is unique. This depends on the product you use (oil vs treats), the method of delivery (given straight to the dog or mixed in their food) and the dog's digestive system. The effects of edible treats will take place on digestion; anywhere from 30-60+ minutes. The process works faster on an empty stomach.
-
How long does CBD last? The effects of CBD can last anywhere from 4-8 hours. This varies due to a number of factors including: the size of the dose your dog's digestive system (metabolism) food eaten that day severity of symptoms Full-Spectrum CBD generally last longer than Isolate and Broad Spectrum. Isolate CBD last around 4 hours; Broad Spectrum 4-6 hours and Full-Spectrum 6-8 hours on most pets. We use an organically grown full-spectrum hemp derived CBD in our treats and pet droppers.
-
How do I know what dose (of CBD) is right for my dog?You know your dog best! We recommend starting your dog at 1-3mg CBD per 10lbs of body weight. Observe your dog before and after adminstration to determine optimal dose for your pooch. If you observe your dog sleeping more - then back off your dose. If your dog seems happier, more active or more social; then you are in the sweet spot.
-

While other dogs take CBD once a day or just occassionally. The full effects last 4-8 hours; depending on the method of use and dosage.
-
