POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF CBD

Updated: Jan 22

Although it is still controversial, a growing number of pet parents have discovered the benefits of CBD for their pets, especially their chronically ill companions.

Keep in mind that while CBD has numerous health benefits, some of which has been proven through scientific testing, you should never administer it to your pets without approval and guidance of your veterinarian.

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD stands for cannabinoid. Cannabinoid derives from the cannabis plant (otherwise known as marijuana); however, it is not the same as the psychoactive derivative know as the chemical compound THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is not a psychoactive drug and it will not get your dog high. CBD and THC are both derived from the cannabis plant; however, they are not the same thing.

  • THC is the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant - it is what gives people the effect of feeling high.

  • CBD is not psychoactive. CBD has many healing properties without the negative side effects of feeling high or stoned.

IS CBD LEGAL?

Contrary to what some CBD Companies would have your believe, CBD is not legal in all 50 states. At this time, CBD is legal in 44 states; but laws are consistently updating, so check your local laws before purchasing CBD.

The best way to determine is CBD is legal where you live is to look up CBD laws in your state or to call your local law professional. Some states have laws specific to CBD and others to not. It is also important to have an understanding of the DEA's views on CBD for dogs versus CBD for humans; especially since this can be different than local and/or state regulations.

Currently in Texas, CBD is legal as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC (this would be considered a full-spectrum CBD). If you are pulled over by police with CBD in your vehicle, they are allowed to confiscate your CBD to test the oil to ensure that it is below the legal limit of THC. Make sure you purchase CBD that is lab tested and make in the USA.

BENEFITS OF CBD FOR YOUR DOG

  • CHRONIC PAIN

CBD can be used to control chronic pain resulting from illness and/or injury. Some veterinarians have started suggesting CBD as a pain reliever; especially for dogs that may not be able to take traditional pain medications. CBD can be safer for at-risk populations as it doesn't have the same type of cardiac effect.

This is the result of CBD blocking cancer cells from producing, prohibiting cell growth, and helping to boost the immune system. Veterinarian professionals have been researching this potential benefit and how to use CBD in dogs with various cancers.

Whether administering following a neurological event or as an ongoing for dogs with a high likelihood of a neurological event; CBD has been shown to protect the brain from damage and reduce the likelihood of a neurological event.

  • DIABETES
